I guess I am surprised at how many race opportunities I had in July. As a Nuun Ambassador, we were invited to participate in a virtual ride/run for July. I chose to do the 10k distance and ended up running half by myself and half with RunBuds. It rained the entire time. Bull City Running Company hosted their annual Heat of the Night run in the middle of the month. A ton of RunBuds came out for that. Towards the end of the month I ran in the Bull Moon Ride and Run — this nighttime 5k is always fun with a great after party. I wish I had gotten there early enough to pick up my bib though.
Kellye and I drove down to Atlanta for the Peachtree Road Race for the Fourth of July. We had an excellent time at the expo visiting all the vendors and I even got to try out the alter G treadmill. We had an awesome dinner at Buckhead Pizza Company. It was buy one get one entrees and they played 90s rock the entire time. The day of the race it poured. It was not ideal. Halfway through I was able to get a volunteer to give up their hat so Kellye could have one. I was SO grateful to that man. After checking out of the hotel, we went to Georgetown Cupcake on the way out of Atlanta. Overall it was a good trip – next time though, it had better not rain.
In addition to running at Fullsteam, I also hit the trail in the morning to run on my favorite section of the ATT. I celebrated my 1000th mile of the year with Susie in a run after school on the 12th. I am enjoying tracking my miles by the hundreds instead of by month this year. During our road trip I ran in each spot, a long run in Albuquerque and some short ones too, a run on the road to Dallas on Route 66, a few runs in Houston including one with my brother’s training group, the Kenyan Way, and a couple treadmill runs in New Orleans and a combination of road and treadmill in Atlanta. The Buds also had a pool party in June — it was fun to celebrate and enjoy summer doing something other than running.
Fit First Fridays met at Forest Hills Park on the first Friday of the month of June. We did a bunch of exercises across the field. It was a challenging start to the work day. I also attended a ladies night WOD at Bull City Crossfit. I guess Scott figured out I’m into this Crossfit thing because he got me a sweet kettlebell for my birthday. I managed to go to two crossfits during our road trip — one in Albuquerque and one in Houston. It is neat to go to boxes on vacation.
Summer is one of the best times of year to get out to Fullsteam Brewery. I was happy to make it out to the National Running Day festivities on June 3rd and especially to run into so many of the RunBuds. At the end of the month, the 2nd Point 262 was held. It is a lovely just over a quarter mile race along Rigsbee Ave. I had a blast celebrating my birthday among friends.
Not a lot of races happening in June. I did run in the Race 13.1 Raleigh race on June 6th. It was race three of the spring Triple Crown. The other races were the Tobacco Road half in March and the Umstead half (NCRC classic) in May. This one was definitely a challenge. I had given blood earlier in the week and the last hill on mile 12 was definitely a challenge. Towards the end of the month I made it back to town for one of my favorite races of the year, the Esprit de She. I’ve done this race the past two years and this year did not disappoint. Even though the weather meant that everyone registered in the 10k would be downgraded to the 5k and the post party was shortened due to storms, it was still fun. We still had bubbly and enjoyed the festivities. Can’t wait til next year when the race is in MAY! Register using my referral code EDS028 — http://www.espritdeshe.com/events/run/cary/
